What is the JCRC?
The Jewish Community Relations Council of Southern New Jersey (JCRC) is
the human relations, public policy, and social advocacy agency of the Jewish
Federation of Southern New Jersey and one of America’s most reliable
and steadfast allies of the State of Israel for the past half century.
It shares values, and principles with its members, the Jewish religious,
social welfare, fraternal organizations and congregations of the tri-county
area of Camden, Burlington, and Gloucester counties.

Goodwin Holocaust Museum and Education Center
Presents Awards for Humanitarian Achievements by High School
Students

DuBois Humanitarian Awards Presented
-- At the annual Volunteer Appreciation event
for the Goodwin Holocaust Museum and Education Center,
the Josiah DuBois Humanitarian Award is presented to
juniors and seniors from high schools in the Delaware
Valley who wrote essays describing projects they have
done to help their own community or people continents
away, displaying the idealism of Josiah DuBois, whose
actions during the Holocaust contributed to the saving
of more than 200,000 Jews from the Holocaust. Awards
ranged from $2000-$500. Receiving their awards are (l-r):
Sara Rood-Ojalvo, Ellen Specter, Fatima Asad, Aleisha
Potter and Stephanie Andre Murray. Advisors standing
behind the students are Perri Geller-Clark, Frank Palatucci,
principal, and Tom Braddock. Two winners, Bethany Schneider
and Samanthe Tiver, were not present, because they were
away working on social justice projects elsewhere. |

Howard Heyman |
Howard J. Heyman, the incoming
president of JCRC, is a member of Altenburger, Uris, Caglioti & Heyman,
L.L.C.
Howard received a bachelor of commerce
degree from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg,
South Africa with majors in accounting and business law
and a minor in business marketing.
He also holds a Master of Science in
Taxation degree from Widener University. Mr. Heyman is
a member of the American Institute of Certified Public
Accountants, Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public
Accountants and the New Jersey Society of Certified Public
Accountants.

JCRC Executive Director Honored
by Newspaper for Diversity Efforts: Congratulations
to JCRC Executive Director Alan Respler for being named
a "Champion of Diversity" by the South
Jersey Courier-Post newspaper.

He is a past board member
of the Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey Bequests
and Endowments Division, and the Golden Slipper Club and
Charities where he is still active. He is a current board
member of the Golden Slipper Uptown Home, and the Passover
League of Philadelphia.
More than 100 people attend "Breaking
Bread Together," Sunday, November 19, 2006. The
interfaith program focused on Catholic, Muslim, and Jewish
holidays and their significance.
Organizers of the event met with lecturers
following the program. From left: Alan Respler, JCRC
Executive Director; Farhat Biviji, Muslim lecturer; Rabbi
Lewis Eron, Jewish lecturer; Gloria Mazziotti, co-chair
of the Catholic Jewish Commission and co-chair of the
Breaking Bread program committee; Msgr. John Frey, Roman
Catholic lecturer; and Zia Rahman, managing director
of the Voorhees American Muslim Society and a co-chair
of the three-way dialogue group.

38th Middle East Institute Draws Audience
of 200 to hear Olmert, other experts, February 4, 2007
The JCRC's 38th annual Middle East Institute on
February 4 attracted more than 200 participants. The annual conference
is designed to educate the community and foster understanding
about current topocs relevant to Israel and the Middle East,
through commentaries by experts with varying perspectives and
backgrounds.
